From 20-30 August, 2016, Professors Leon Bravo, Lohengrin Cavieres, and Patricia Saez are in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia participating in the SCAR Meeting and in the “2016 Open Science Conference”. The team of the Ring is presenting the results obtained during the execution of the Antarctic projects PIA ART 1102 and associated FONDECYT projects 1130332 and Fondecyt 1151173. In addition, results obtained with international colaboration with the researchers from the Universidade des Isles Balears, Spain, Jeroni Galmes and Xurxo Gago. The works “Photosynthetic performance in Antarctic plants: effects of in situ warming”, “Diffusive and biochemical limitations to photosynthesis in Antarctic plants from two populations in antarctica” and “Are Antarctic plants more tolerant to stress than others? A world-wide comparison” have been already presented as posters. The works “The importance of facilitative interactions on the growth and survival of Colobanthus quitensis in an Antarctic tundra” and “Direct and indirect effects of warming explain the expansion of vascular plants populations in Maritime Antarctica” will be presented orally.
These presentations are the result of three years of execution of the mentioned ptojects. This research has also contributed to the generation of international cooperation networks and capacity building at the level of Masters and PhD degrees. Some papers are already publishedand others are in the process of publication. This meeting is an excellent showcase for our research and for discussing future studies and projects dealing with these Antarctic plants.
