The XVII International Colloquium on Plant Ecophysiology was successfully held

Between January 17 and 20 of the current year, the XVII International Colloquium on Plant Ecophysiology took place. As is tradition, this event was held at Katalapi Park, Puerto Montt, where established scientists, young researchers, and students from various areas of plant ecophysiology gathered to share scientific advances and research experiences, contributing to the formulation of new questions and scientific collaborations.

As usual, this year featured the participation of important international researchers in Plant Ecophysiology: Jaume Flexas (UIB, Spain), Jeroni Galmés (UIB, Spain), Marc Carriquí (CIFOR-INIA, Spain), José Ignacio García-Plazaola (UPV/EHU, Spain), Beatriz Fernández-Marín (UPV/EHU, Spain), Ingo Ensminger (University of Toronto, Mississauga, Canada), Paulo Ribeiro Marchiori (UFLA, Brazil), and Marilyn Ball (National University of Australia, Australia), in addition to distinguished academics and researchers from national universities and postgraduate students (Universidad Austral, Universidad de Concepción, and Universidad de la Frontera). Thus, the event included 9 lectures, 4 mini-lectures, and 16 short communications, all highlighting the excellent quality of the work presented. It is worth noting that among the presentations, several addressed topics related to the research conducted by our group in the ecophysiology of Antarctic plants. Additionally, representatives from the international technology company ICT demonstrated their sap flow measurement systems and the use of psychrometers.

Especially this year, a recognition was given during the event to Dr. Liliana Cardemil (R.I.P.) and Dr. Juan Armesto (R.I.P.) for their invaluable contribution to research and academia. In this way, the event organized by the academics Dr. Lohengrin Cavieres (UdeC), Dr. León Bravo (UFRO), and Dr. Patricia Sáez (UFRO), along with Dr. Luis Corcuera, founder of the Katalapi Park Foundation, was once again carried out as a unique instance, in a familiar atmosphere that encourages the exchange of ideas and constructive criticism of the research that both academics and students are conducting, urging particularly the latter to generate quality, cutting-edge, and collaborative science.
